Instructor Training Information 2021

 CPR Success is an approved American Heart Association training center and we pride ourselves in upholding AHA standards in accordance with Emergency Cardiovascular Care guidelines. We have been an AHA Training center for over 20 years adhering to the current guidelines. Our independent instructors and training sites provide high quality training. Instructors may communicate via email, text or phone for any questions or issues. We mentor our instructor and make sure we give them all the necessary tools to be the best instructor possible. Below you will find a list of requirements to become an instructor.

Each instructor training and course is $225.00

Follow these steps to become an AHA Instructor: 

  1. Have a current PROVIDER card in the discipline (i.e., BLS, Heartsaver) you wish to teach. 
  2. Align with an authorized American Heart Association Training Center that is accepting new instructors. An Instructor candidate must have a Find a Training Center near you at www.heart.org/eccclassconnector. CPR Success is CA02977.  
  3. Complete the American Heart Association’s Essentials Course Online for each level $45.00. 
  4. Attend an instructor course (1 day) with Essentials complete and instructor and provider book in hand.
  5. Complete an Instructor Candidate Application with TC approval and alignment. 
  6. Observe and participate in an actual course with a regional faculty member or training center faculty. (Contact CPR Success to arrange the course)
  7. Successful monitoring teaching your first course or any additional courses as required by instructor, once these requirements are met, your completed paperwork will be sent to the training center that you will be aligned. The training center provides the approval for you as an instructor. Alignment request is obtained through ahainstructornetwork.org. To align with CPR Success (CA02977) approval and acknowledgement must be given by TCC Coordinator and TC Director. Other training centers will require the same approval.  

Instructor Requirements

An AHA Instructor Course teaches the methods needed to effectively instruct others in resuscitation courses. The AHA requires that Instructors be at least 16 years of age for Heartsaver Instructor and BLS Instructor courses. ACLS and PALS Instructors must be at least 18 years of age and licensed or certified in a healthcare occupation where such skills are within the provider scope of practice. (AHA Program Administration Manual, 3/2018).


Instructor Course Completion-

Instructor candidates must demonstrate:

· Satisfactory performance of the skills listed in the Faculty Guide for the course.

· A thorough knowledge of course organization; course content, including appropriate provider skills; Instructor responsibilities; and the AHA guidelines for the specific discipline.


Instructor Card Issuance Requirements –

Instructor status is granted after an Instructor candidate successfully completes the Instructor Course and meets the following requirements:

· Within 6 months of successfully completing the Instructor Course, the candidate successfully demonstrates his or her teaching skills while being monitored during a Provider or Provider Renewal Course. A TCF can extend the time requirement to 1 year if there are extenuating circumstances.

· Aligns with a TC, which issues the Instructor card.

Please note: BLS Provider Instructor also includes the Heartsaver Courses. These courses each have their own Instructor Materials, Essentials and Textbooks which would incur additional fees and materials. 2020 Guidelines Heartsaver now available. See https://www.worldpoint.com



Each student is required to have their OWN student workbook to be utilized before, during and after the training.


All Instructors are required to meet the following requirements:


  • A current AHA provider card for the discipline you would like to teach
  • Meet & Greet with TC coordinator and Director
  • Instructor Essentials course – Before instructor course (1)
  • Instructor Course – (2)
  • Instructor monitoring with form completed – Before any class can be taught independently and cards issued for any class taught (3)
  • Equipment & teaching materials check (4)
  • Liability Insurance – suggested not mandatory
  • Letter of recommendation – due by the day of the instructor course
  • Instructor Candidate application and TC approval
  • TC alignment agreement - If aligning with CPR Success
  • TC transfer of records request – current instructors only

  • Express card processing (same day) $15.00 per roster
  • Rosters - $15.00 
  • Credit card payments (manual entry over the phone $5.00 per transaction)

  • Manikin cleaning supplies
  • First Aid Training Kit: Gloves, Roller gauze and gauze $5 each  
  • Epi-Pen Trainer Auto injectors $6 each
